Technologies learning builds curiosity, creativity and resilience by teaching students to think, make and innovate. Through design, systems and computational thinking, they learn how people, technologies and environments influence one another.

Students solve problems with empathy and imagination, working ethically and collaboratively to create sustainable, preferred futures.

Learning in Technologies is connected to real situations that matter to students and their communities. Students explore how things work, why systems behave as they do and how ideas can become solutions that help people and the environment.

Students use computational, design and systems thinking to investigate, generate ideas, make, test and refine solutions. These experiences build motivation and confidence as they work on challenges that are meaningful to them. Across a range of contexts, learners apply these thinking strategies to understand and create sustainable systems; from food and materials to construction principles and computer science.

Through ongoing cycles of thinking, acting and reflecting, students develop the capacity to tackle increasingly complex problems and build the confidence to thrive in a changing world.

The SA Curriculum describes Technologies as two separate but relatable subjects:

Design and Technologies:

Students critically analyse and creatively respond to design challenges. They consider the impacts on technological change and use design thinking to generate solutions for authentic problems.

Digital Technologies:

In Digital Technologies, students learn how digital tools are imagined, created and brought to life. They use coding to design solutions, work with data to inform decisions and explore how people and systems interact. They develop skills to become innovative creators and users of digital solutions as global citizens to shape our future.
