English

In English, students build strong literacy skills as they read, view, listen and create. They explore ideas with curiosity, organise their thinking through talk and visual supports, and communicate in ways that matter — from shaping clear writing to sharing ideas aloud. By engaging with a wide range of texts and diverse voices, students learn to make meaning, think critically and appreciate the power of language to connect, include and inspire.

At Ingle Farm Primary School teachers implement Literacy Block’s that explicitly teach the skills of the Big 6 of Reading and Scarborough’s Reading Rope. Literacy skills are explicitly taught during the Literacy block by using information obtained from a variety of diagnostic tools (instructional reading, DIBELS assessments and the Department for Education Literacy progressions).
