At Ingle Farm Primary School, we recognise that moving to a new country and learning a new language can be both challenging and overwhelming for students and their families. Our school is a welcoming, multicultural community where every child is supported and valued.

The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) provides targeted English language support for newly arrived primary-aged students (5-12 years old) in Australia. Our program helps students to develop their English skills across all learning areas, while also supporting their understanding of Australian cultural practices.

Students are taught by highly trained educators with expertise in teaching English as an additional language or dialect (EALD). We use evidence-based strategies to help students build their language skills, with small class sizes organised by age to maximise individual attention and learning. Our primary focus is on empowering students to use English effectively, both academically and socially.

To support a smooth adjustment, we provide access to interpreters, Bilingual School Support Officers (BSSOs), and Community Liaison Officers (CLOs). Students typically remain in the IELP for 12-18 months before transitioning to their local mainstream school through a comprehensive transition program.

To enrol in the IELP, children must:

• Require intensive English language instruction
• Hold an eligible and approved permanent or temporary visa subclass
• Have arrived in Australia less than 12 months ago (within 18 months for Reception and Year 1)
• Provide visa and passport details at enrolment, as some temporary visa categories are not eligible

Our program is flexible and tailored to individual needs, ensuring that every child is empowered to become a happy, motivated, and successful learner.
