Growing Curious Minds Through Our Garden to Kitchen Program
At Ingle Farm Primary School, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our Garden to Kitchen Program gives students the opportunity to explore where food comes from, develop practical life skills and build a deeper understanding of sustainability through hands-on learning.
From planting seeds and caring for garden beds to harvesting fresh produce and preparing delicious meals, students experience every stage of the food journey. They discover how fresh ingredients are grown, why seasonal produce matters and how healthy food choices contribute to overall wellbeing.

The Garden to Kitchen Program provides authentic learning opportunities that connect directly with the Australian Curriculum, integrating Science, Health and Physical Education, Design and Technologies, Sustainability and Environmental Education. Students apply their knowledge through real-life experiences that encourage curiosity, responsibility and teamwork.
Working alongside staff and dedicated volunteers, students learn essential gardening skills including planting, watering, composting and maintaining productive gardens. As vegetables, herbs and fruit are harvested, they transition into the kitchen where students safely prepare, cook and enjoy nutritious recipes using the produce they have grown themselves.
This hands-on approach helps children develop confidence in the kitchen while strengthening their understanding of nutrition, food preparation and healthy eating habits. Just as importantly, it encourages students to try new foods, appreciate fresh ingredients and develop positive lifelong relationships with food.
Beyond gardening and cooking, the program nurtures important personal and social capabilities. Students build problem-solving skills, collaboration, resilience, independence and environmental responsibility while working together towards a shared goal. They learn that patience, care and persistence are rewarded, valuable lessons that extend well beyond the garden.
At Ingle Farm Primary School, we believe meaningful learning happens when students can connect classroom knowledge with real-world experiences. Our Garden to Kitchen Program inspires children to become environmentally conscious, healthy and confident learners while fostering a strong sense of community and belonging.
